Earning the Webelos Badge

The Webelos badge is the fourth rank in Cub Scouting (higher than Bobcat, Wolf, and Bear). You can start working on it as soon as you join a Webelos den. To earn the Webelos badge, you must be active in your den at least three months and complete the requirements. The requirements are listed on the scoreboard below. You'll be proud to reach Webelos rank and receive your badge at a pack meeting.

1.	Have an adult member of your family read the Webelos Scout Parent Guide that comes with the Webelos book (See pages 444 460) and sign here.	__________
2.	Be an active member of your Webelos den for three months. (Active means having good attendance, paying den dues, working on den projects.)	__________
3.	Know and explain the meaning of the Webelos badge.	__________
4.	Point out the three special parts of the Webelos Scout uniform. Tell when to wear the uniform and when not to wear it.	__________
5.	Earn the Fitness activity badge and two other activity badges from different activity badge groups.	__________
6.	Plan and lead a flag ceremony in your den.	__________
7.	Show that you know and understand the requirements to be a Boy Scout. Understand and intend to live by the Scout Oath Scout Law Scout motto Scout slogan Know the following and when to use them: Scout salute Scout sign Scout handclasp Understand and agree to follow the Outdoor Code.	__________ __________ __________ __________ __________ __________ __________ __________
8.	Complete one of the following: Earn the religious emblem of your faith* OR Do two of these§: Attend the church, synagogue, mosque, or other religious organization of your choice; talk with your religious leader about your beliefs; and tell your family and Webelos den leader what you learned. Tell how your religious beliefs fit in with the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Discuss this question with your family and Webelos den leader: What character-building traits do your beliefs and the Scout Oath and Scout Law have in common? With your religious leader, discuss and write down two things you think will help you draw nearer to God. Do these things. Pray to God or meditate reverently each day as taught by your family and by your church, synagogue, or religious group. Do this for at least one month. Under the direction of your religious leader, do an act of service for someone else. Talk about your service with your family and Webelos den leader. Tell them how it made you feel. List at least two ways you believe you have lived according to your religious beliefs. *If you earned your faith's religious emblem when you were a Wolf or Bear Cub Scout, you must do two of the other religious requirements listed under (b). The Meaning of the Webelos Badge

The Webelos badge has a Webelos emblem on it, which contains a blue W, the word Webelos, and a small Scout badge at the bottom. It means you are on the Webelos trail that leads from Cub Scouting to Boy Scouting.

The Parts of Your Uniform

Webelos Scouts may wear either the blue uniform they word as Cub Scouts or the tan shirt and olive green trousers they win wear as Boy Scouts. You and your family decide which one you will wear. With either basic uniform, Webelos Scouts wear the Webelos cap, Webelos neckerchief, and Webelos neckerchief slide.

When to Wear the Uniform

Wear your uniform to all den meetings and pack meetings
On campouts and other den activities
At den service projects
During Scouting's Anniversary Week in February
The Webelos uniform may not be worn
- When you are involved in any distinctly political activity
- When you are appearing on the stage professionally
- When you are participating in demonstrations not authorized by the Boy Scouts of America

Planning and Leading a Flag Ceremony

For Webelos badge requirement 6, you must plan and lead a den flag ceremony using the U.S. flag. Here are some ideas:

Have the Webelos Scouts give the Cub Scout salute and repeat the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.
Parade the U.S. flag and the den flag past the line of Webelos Scouts, who stand at attention and salute.
Plan a ceremony on the history of the flag. Each boy in the den can make and color a different paper flag to show how our present flag developed out of earlier flags.
Have the Webelos Scouts march past the flag, giving the proper salute.
